Job Purpose:

To assist the anesthesia care provider with acquiring, preparing and use of equipment, supplies, and medications during the administration of anesthesia or procedural sedation. Functions under supervision of the licensed anesthesia care provider.

Key Responsibilities And Duties

  • Anesthesia Services: Provides anesthesia services to patients, under the direct supervision of a licensed anesthesia care provider.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Cleans, disinfects, organizes, stocks and maintains anesthesia equipment, supplies, and medications according to needs and schedules.
  • Supply Management: Maintains anesthesia medications, supplies and equipment according to needs and schedules.
  • Patient Monitoring and Preparation: Prepares and maintains patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems pre, intra, and post-anesthesia, considering age-specific needs of patients.
  • Procedural Preparation: Prepares for epidural, spinal, and caudal anesthesia, central line and dialysis catheter insertions, and ultrasound-guided nerve block and vascular access.
  • Equipment Troubleshooting: Performs basic troubleshooting for monitors and equipment; report defective equipment and malfunctions appropriately.
  • Policy Compliance: Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Medication Administration: Prepares, administers and monitors medications and I.V. fluids under the direct supervision of a licensed anesthesia care provider.
  • Medication Dispensing System Management: Manages the Pyxis or any other dispensing system machine in the operating theatre, ensuring accurate dispensing of anesthesia medications and maintaining inventory.
  • Patient Positioning and Airway Management: Assists in airway management and appropriate positioning of patients intraoperatively.
  • Patient Monitoring Competency: If responsible for monitoring the patient’s physiological parameters and assistance in supportive or resuscitative measures, must be competent in at least: Monitoring requirements, Response to complications, Use of reversal agents, Recovery criteria.
  • Team Collaboration: Promotes effective working relationships with anesthesia department staff, collaborating with RN team, surgical technicians, service technicians, and equipment technicians.
  • Safety Reporting: Monitors and reports safety issues in the immediate work area.
  • Patient and Family Education: Educates patients and their families about health conditions, treatments and preventative measures if applicable.

Requirements

Skills And Abilities

  • Computer skills

Experience: 2 years of experience in Tertiary Care Center

Education: BSN-Diploma graduate with anesthesia technician qualification from institution or, Bachelor nursing with structured training in anesthesia assistance

Language: Fluent in English. Fluency in Arabic preferred

Licenses / Certifications: License for practice as per the regional health regulatory authority e.g. (SCFHS / DHA), BLS, ACLS and PALS
