I completed my Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Nursing from Kaatsu International University, where I gained comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical training in patient care across medical, surgical, pediatric, and community health settings. The program equipped me with strong clinical skills in patient assessment, care planning, medication administration, infection control, and evidence-based nursing practice. I also developed competencies in critical thinking, communication, and multidisciplinary teamwork, which are essential for delivering safe and effective patient care.
I completed my Diploma in General Nursing at School of Nursing Kandy, where I gained a strong foundation in essential nursing knowledge and clinical skills. The program provided comprehensive training in patient care, including medical and surgical nursing, medication administration, infection control, and basic emergency care. I developed hands-on experience in hospital settings, assisting in patient assessment, monitoring vital signs, wound care, and supporting daily nursing procedures. This training helped me build core competencies in compassionate patient care, teamwork, communication, and adherence to professional and ethical nursing standards.
Work & Experience
I have over 4 years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in a surgical unit at a busy tertiary care hospital in Sri Lanka. I provided comprehensive nursing care for patients in general surgery, orthopedics, ENT, and oral & maxillofacial specialties, managing both pre-operative and post-operative cases. My responsibilities included patient assessment, monitoring vital signs, administering medications such as IV antibiotics and insulin, and initiating IV therapy. I performed clinical procedures including IV cannulation, wound care, tracheostomy care, colostomy care, NG tube feeding, and PEG tube management while maintaining strict aseptic techniques. I actively monitored patients for early signs of complications and responded promptly to emergencies, including participation in CPR and code blue situations. I also ensured adherence to infection control protocols, accurate documentation, and coordinated care with the multidisciplinary team. Additionally, I provided patient and family education on post-operative care, disease management, and lifestyle modifications, contributing to improved patient outcomes and recovery.
