Consultant Hematologist

Job Description

Job Purpose

Provide specialized medical expertise in the diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with hematological disorders. Ensure delivery of high-quality, evidence-based patient care while contributing to clinical excellence, patient safety, medical education, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and establish accurate diagnoses for hematological conditions.
  • Manage outpatient consultations and provide specialized hematology services.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings and diagnostic results.
  • Prescribe medications, blood products, and other therapeutic interventions as appropriate.
  • Monitor patients’ progress, evaluate treatment outcomes, and adjust management plans when necessary.
  • Explain diagnoses, procedures, treatment options, and expected outcomes to patients and their families.
  • Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with other medical specialties.
  • Perform hematology-related diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the scope of professional privileges.
  • Participate in inpatient care activities, including admissions, ward rounds, and discharge planning.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical records in accordance with professional and regulatory standards.
  • Review and validate clinical documentation completed by junior medical staff.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support physicians in training, residents, interns, and allied healthcare professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical guidelines, medical ethics, quality standards, and patient safety requirements.
  • Participate in emergency response activities and on-call coverage as assigned.
  • Contribute to quality improvement programs, clinical audits, and healthcare governance initiatives.
  • Participate in medical education, research activities, professional development programs, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Promote patient-centered care and enhance patient experience through compassion, dignity, and respect.
  • Support health promotion, disease prevention, and community awareness initiatives related to hematological disorders.
  • Participate in committees and organizational projects when required.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities within the scope of professional competence and expertise.

Qualifications

Education

  • Successful completion of internship and residency training programs.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Hematology or a related specialty.

Professional Certification

  • Board Certification, Fellowship, Membership, or equivalent qualification in Hematology.
  • Valid professional medical license.
  • Eligibility for registration with relevant healthcare regulatory authorities.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of post-specialization experience in Hematology.
  • Experience within tertiary care or highly specialized healthcare settings is preferred.
  • Additional subspecialty training or fellowship in a focused area of Hematology is considered an advantage.
